Great Astronomer

The Kuiper Belt

The short period comets that make complete orbits around the sun 200 yeas exit as a disc shaped region of space outside the orbit of Neptune. This was proposed by Astronomer Gerard Peter Kuiper in 1951.

In 1992 the kupier belt went out of history since a 150 mile object called 1992QB1 was found in the environs of the belt. This was predicted by Kupier. From that time other that is detected gives a proof that the belt actually exists.
Pluto discovered in 1930 is now considered as kupier belt object. Now the kupier belt is thought to be extended sparsely outwards to the Oort cloud.

The Oort Cloud

Astronomer Jan Hendrik Oort in 1950 said that comets might have originated in a cloud of material and now it is called oort cloud. These comets are orbiting the sun at a greater distance and the orbits are occasionally disrupted by the gravitational influence of nearby stars sending them rushing towards the inner solar system.

Since the oort clouds are at a longer distance they take 30 million years to complete one trip around the sun. the oort are spherical in shape and is thought to be exist halfway between the sun and the heliopause.
